AN EXPLANATION.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRBSS. Sir, —I much regret to find that some outside misunderstanding has arisen as to our motives in announcing the opening of our premises on Thursday evening last. When this announcement was made I understood it was customary to keep open on the evening before Good Friday, therefore I intended naturally to do the same. Both the public and the trade, however, are well enough aware that G. L. Beath and Co. have never stood in the way of closing at any time whenever other houses have done so, and the employees both past and present of my firm will be the best judge, of the liberality with which they have always been treated in the way iff holidays generally. As soon as I found that others would close I of course decided to do the same, as I always shall do.—Yours, &c, J. E. WICKE-fDEN.
