" LARRY" ARMSTRONG'S ADVICE TO MATT BRICKER. There's Joe Maize ! My honest friend— He's kind hearted and true, Many a game we have played togetherHe will tell the same to you. Joe is up the ladder hia-. Further than I can climb, Bui sitting playing at checkers, Matt, Is just a waste of time. • It's all right to be jolly, It's better than being insane; I pity any mortal that Gets checkers on the brain. I got that once myself; It was a fault of mine. But sitting playing checkers. Matt, Is just a wast, of time. I've dreamed of playing checkers. Matt, When lying in my bed ; I thought the checkers and the board Were stock fast in my head. I saw very grand positions there, And some of them were fine. But sitting playing checkers, Matt, Is just a waste of time. My checker board is fading. Matt, And I am fading, too; A few more seconds on the stage And Til hid you all adieu. You know I am getting old, Matt, ■< * Thank God I have done no crime, Only playing checkers, Matt, And that's a waste of time. —Pittsburgh Chronicle TbligrapK
