THE SEDDON GOVERNMENT.
10 til- EDITOR OP THS PRESS. Sir, —I will depart from my usual habit, viz., hot to notice anonymous correspondence. I might play oa the initials V.R.C, which might represent vicious, rancorous and cant. V.R.C. writes according to his lights, evidently trained in an ancient Tory school, and derives his inspiration now from, glossed coated, sham Toryism. Surely if V.R.C. wished to do justice to the present Government he would find some commendable qualities, if not in the Cabinet as a whole, in some individual members, and not assume that airy, supercilious superiority that can brook no rivals in politics, and when in the delicious shades of Opposition learn nothing of tho virtues of civility and respeotf ol demeanour towards the powers that be. Such conduct outwardly results in croaking, whining, and in effect,, says you have usurped my position with its emoluments, privileges, patronage, ko. Down with the usurpers ! If the usurper will not retire then bespatter and belittle him; impute to him all that is base and ignoble, only keep within the libel line. .What cowardice, what ungenerous conduct to emanate from, and be practised by, so-called »'gentlemen." "He also . writes a lot of nonsense about the Opposition," Sec Had he nob better Write nonseuse that won't hurt than pervert
sense to wound and vilify bettor men ; rtiwli the tone of leading articles, pars of ouv own, tepid, sneering, idiotic correspondence, published in Opposition rtewdpapors fiin« the invitation to the Premier from tlit Colonial Secretary Was ihade known. Bah it's noxious beyond description. If tlij leader of the Opposition had been invited, that would have been palatable. " Wait," '•'V.R.C." reminds mo of an experienced resident behind the scones doing the jackal business. ""V.R.C," are you lost to nil shame and self-respect to parade that It.. famous Mnlvaney business-beforo th. puti electors of Christchurch ? How am 1 i< oortstrue this, that ■" V.R.C; " glories in tiii shameful episode . I am gUd "V.R.C." is totally colour-bltal, and thab MrJebson displays a little humour. Is there any of this highly human quality left in the Opposition, and if so Is it bottled for future use': 1 And now "V.R.C." demonstrate, and then refute my state. meuts. Before I use strong, offi-nuve ami nasty, terms of or to auy one, I like to know the meaning of same, and "when ono reflects on the jobbery and corruption that taints the whole Seddon party." ' Now I "V.R.C." to prove his state. ments, giving names, airoumstance, on indisputable evidence, not ou that stock quotation spoils to the victors' "basis." After thirty-five years' residence in Canterbury to be twitted with jobbery, corruption, and a crawling, emaseulatin-* disease, I hurl back the foul Blandon*.-*-Yours, &c, Joh.s* JfIBSOS, Sheffield, April 6th. , .
