THE HALF-MILLION LOAN.
-- ■»■' RUMOURS IN WELLINGTON. (press associatiox tklegram.) WELLINGTON, December 21. The mystery ns to who snbscril-ed the colonial loan is being gradually solved. I hear, on good authority, that the Bank of New Zealand subscribed £250,000, and another Bank (probably the Bank of New South Wales) also has a share. It is pretty certain that £25,000 has been allotted to tho A.M.P. Society, and that some of the money came from the Treasury, Now Zealand consols being utilised for the purpose. Only some £8000, it ia stated, was tendered for by the public.
