AUCKLAND NOTES.
(By Tblegraph.) (from our (xhtrksfondknt.) AUCKLAND, December 21. There was very little strong work done at Ellerslie this morning. Mahaki, St. Paul, Nestor, Pegasus, Mantle, and Haria each got through light tasks. Mars and Dauntless were treated to halt pace work in the company of Epaulet, aud Tt._ got through similar work. Coronet aud Peerless spurted half a mile, the two-year-old showing to advantage. A number of the juveniles were then treated to some starting by the aid of tho barrier. Among them were Multiform, Gold Medallist and Defiant. Earlier in the morning Multiform traversed six furlongs, the last two at top. This colt is very well. The jumpers, Levanter and St. Simon, were schooled over the big fences. Both horse3 jumped faultlessly. If St. Simon stands up he should win the Steeplechase on January 2nd. Kingswood and Gipsy Prince were companions in schooling "work. (T-RESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, December 21. St. Paul still holds his position as favourite, while the best price to be obtained about Mahaki is 5 to 1. Other quotations are— 7 to 1 Epaulet, Day Star and Fabulist, 8 to 1 Nestor and Haria. The racehorses Ballyhooley and Marechal Neil were brought over from Sydney in the s.s. Rotomahana. The following prices were quoted to-night on the Auckland Cup :—5 to 2 against St. Paul, 6 to 1 Mahaki, 7 to 1 Day Star, 8 to 1 Fabulist, 8 to 1 Mars, 10 to 1 Nestor, 10 to 1 Epaulet, 14 to 1 Haria, 1. to 1 Pegasus, 20 to 1 Merry Maid, 20 to 1 Mantle, 50 to 1 Quickfire, 50 to 1 Anita, 50 to 1 Uhlan. Mr Wynyard, Secretary to the Takapuna Jockey Club, will probably manage the Auckland Summer Meoting in place of Mr Percival, who is still in the hospital.
