QUEENSLAND v CANTERBURY.
Practices for the match Queensland against Canterbury, which is to be played at Lancaster Park on January Bth, 9th and 11th, commenced in real earnest last evening. The Queensland team is due in Auckland by the Rotomahana on Monday, the 21st inst. Mr Francis is unable to accompany the team, so Mr Fish, a well known Brisbane solicitor, will act as Manager of the team. A friendly game of cricket was played on Wednesday, at Sydenham Park, between a team from the Weedons and West Melton Clubs and the Sydenham and Addington United. The latter, battiug first, made 81 (A. Lawrence 29, J. Wright 15). The country team responded with 93 (D. Sinclair 29, O. Saunders 21, F. Davidson'll. The home team, going in again, were all out for 36, the bowling of Davidson being altogether too good for them. The visitors, going in again, made the required number of runs with two wickets down, but continued batting and were all out for 57 (Gudsell 26). McMurray bowled best for the home team, and F. Davidson (eight wickets for 9 luns) best for the visitors.
