By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SUPPOSED MURDER. Sydney, December 18. The body found near Bourke has been identified as that of an old man named Edward Smith. Another old man named Moore has been arrested with a quantity of Smith's belongings in his possession. At the inquest a verdict of wilful murder was returned against Moore. STEAMER COLLISION. The Manly Beach steamer Manly collided with the steam collier Merksworth off Bradley's Head. The Merksworth was badly injured and had to be beached. Her stern is now lying in forty feet of water, and she shows signs of breaking up. The ferry steamer was not injured. AMALGAMATION. Melbourne. December 18. Meetings of the members of the National Mutual Life Association of Australia and the Mutual Assurance Association of Victoria have adopted the proposed scheme of amalgamation. ACCIDENT TO A CATTLE TRAIN. Brisbane, December 18. A cattle train ran off the rails on a steep curve upon the Esk line. One hundred out of the one hundred and forty beasts were killed and much damage was done to the railway stock.
