FEDERATION CONVENTION.
MR SEDDON'S SUGGESTION. Pres* Association—By Telegraph—Copyright Sydney, December 18. It is expected that the Fedei 1 Convention will meet in the first week in April, probably in Sydney. As the result of a Cabinet meeting the Premier is conferring with the other colonies as to the issue of writs fixing the date of the elections for Federal delegates. Melbourne, December 18. The Premier has telegraphed to the Premier of New South Wales strongly urging him to proceed with the Federal Convention elections, and not abandon the proposal merely because Queensland decided to stand aloof for the present. Brisbane, December 18. In the Assembly the Premier, in reply to Mr Drake said the Govern-, ment had no intention of being represented at the Federal Convention, unless it was postponed till after the next session. In the meanwhile they would take no action in the matter. Adelaide, December 18. In the Assembly the Premier stated that the Government favoured Mr Seddon's idea of a federal meeting of Premiers in New Zealand. South Australia would be represented at all gatherings likely to promote a federal spirit, and they were prepared to go on with federation without Queensland if the other colonies desired.
