CHRISTCHURCH REGATTA.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sib, —The date of the Christchurch regatta lias been fixed, and I presume the Hon. (?) Treasurer of the Club will soon commence canvassing for Subscriptions. As a last year's subscriber I would point out that a considerable portion of the money subscribed by the citizens of Christchurch was not wholly allocated to the purposes of the regatta, but of the sum of £70 subscribed an amount of £20 was paid for the collecting and £10 was paid to the Hon. (?) Secretary with the result that on the regatta there was a debit balance, which, had it not been for the payment of these exorbitant sums, would have been a credit one. My subscription was given with a view to the furtherance of rowing, but I now find that my mite went to help swell the pockets of individuals who, instead of giving their services to a sport for honour ana glory, contrive to make for themselves a monetary gain. I think it would be well for subscribers in future to obtain something definite as io the allocation of their subscriptions and absolutely decline to contribute (as I shall decline) unless a very satisfactory reply is forthcoming.—Yours, &c, DIS3ATISFTBD.
