FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.
The Fire Brigades' demonstration and competitions, organised by the Ashburton Brigade, came off at Ashburton yesterday and were a great success. Visiting teams wore presont from Christchuroh, Rangion*, Geraldine, Temuka, and Timaru, and each Brigade took part in the processiou in the morning and the competitions held in tha Domain throughout tho day. Tho arrangements were very complete, and everything passed off without a hitch, reflecting great credit on all who had organised the,affair, and who worked so hard to carry it to a successful issue. The following are the results of the various events :—■
Manual engine (dry), one man—As!c burton, J. Dorm, 34sec, Ist; Ashburton, T. Borough, 36§sec, 2nd. Timaru, Geraldine, Temuka, Christchurch and Rangiora teams also competed. Manual engine (dry), three men—Chriitchurcb, R. Campbell, W. Juriss and flat* tersall, 44,-Jsec, Ist; Rangiora, Jordan, Da Moulin and W. Wilson, 53sec, 2nd, Tiroarn, 56sec; Ashburton, 62g»ec, also competed, The Christchurcli" men did their work' remarkably clean and without a fault. - ; Hose, hydrant and union competition, for five men (dry)—Christcjgurch, Tatter-all, ■ McMillan, Campbell, Juriss, Shepherd, 33-gsec; Ashburton, T. Barber, J, Dorm, B. * Dorm, W. Kidd, E. Borough, 33jfsec, tied,', Timaru 36_sec, Rangiora 43sec, puted. In the run off Christchurch's time was 35gsec and Ashburton's 371860," Christ-, church thus taking first prize and Ashburton*. second.
Coupling practice for two men—TimaJ--Shewan and Campbell, 41gsec, Ist-; Christchurch, R. Campbell and W. Juriss,. 43j|seo2nd. A second Christchurch team 46_s« .
