MAGISTERIAL ENQUIRY.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) Wellington, December 16. A magisterial enquiry into the alleged striking of the Takapuna on a reef near Alligator. Point, while on her passage to Nelson a few days ago, was held this morning. Captain Grant said at first he thought the vessel touched, but on seeing her on the slip he was certain she did not. The second officer, who was on watch, said he thought the vessel touched. The evidence of the diver who examined the vessel's bottom was against the theory that the vessel struck. The enquiry was adjourned till Saturday for argument of a legal point as to the jurisdiction of the Court under the Shipping and Seamen's Act, 1877.
