Wednesday, December 9. There was a fairly large entry of stock and a good attendance. Fat Cattle.—The entry of fat cattle was much above requirements, and nothing but very prime sorts could be disposed of except at a considerable reduction on late values. Steers sold at £6 to £8 2s 6d, heifers £4 10s to £7 10s, and cows £3 10s to £6 12s 6d. Dairy and Stork Cattle—There was a medium entry of dairy cows, and they met with a dragging sale, best sorts making from £4 10s to £6 ss, and others from £3 to £4. The store pens were chiefly filled with yearlings, eighteen months, and two-year olds, but the demand was not very active, and the prices obtained were very low. A line of 100 head of yearlings and eighteen months old from Cheviot sold at 23s 6d, 33s to 435, other yearlings at 355, eighteen months old at 455, two and a-half year olds £3 15s, four-year-old steers £5 12s, and cows up to £3 15s. Pigs—There was a fairly large entry of pigs, and prices were a shade easier than last week, fate making about 3|d per lb. Baconers sold at 27s 6d to 475, porkers 15s 6d to 24s 6d and stores 7s to 14s 6d. Stork Shkep. —There was again a small entry of store sheep, butratherbetterprices were obtained than of late. Crossbred wethers sold at 10s 7d to 10s 9d, wethers and maiden ewes 7s 3d to 8s Bd, and ewes and lambs 3s 5d to 4s 7d. Fat Lambs.—A large entry of fat lambs met with active competition from export buyers and the trade, and prices showed a still further improvement. Best pens made 10s N 6d to 13s 10d and medium 7s 6d to 10s. Fat Sheep—There was not a large entry of fat sheep, and it was chiefly made up of butchers-crossbred ewes, which were still easier in -value. Crossbred wethers made 9s to 12s lid, maiden ewes 10s to 11s, best butchers* crossbred ewes 9s 6d to 10s lid, medium 8s to 9s, inferior 6s to 7s 6d, merino wethers 4s 10d to 5s 6d.
