BOROUGH COUNCILS.
ST. ALBANS.
A special meeting of the St. Albans Borough Council was held last evening to receive the report of the Combined Committees re the proposed loan. Present — The Mayor (Mr F. Waymouth), and Crs. Keig, Morgan, Hill, Neate, Glass, Money, and Peuteney. Apolosriea were received for the absence of Cra. Charlewood and Cook. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Pknteney, seconded by Cγ. Moskt, to make a special order for widening Jfacke's, Carlton Mill, and Edgeware roads. The report of the Joint Committee recommended that the amount to be borrowed be £22,500, without sinking fund, for a period of twenty years at 4 per cent., and that a i-ate of Id in the £ should be levied for the purpose of securing the interest over the area in which the loan was to be expended. The works proposed to be carried on out of loan were:—Regrading roads £1000, asphalting £3468, channelling £11,825, iron culverts £200, surveying £500, deep wells £100, filling in mill race £150, broken metal £1750, bindings £125, North belt drain £75, forming Packe's road £700, piping drains £250, channelling on roads with one footpath £1267, contingencies £1090, total £22,500. On the motion of Cr. Pbntknet, seconded by Cγ. Money, the report was adopted. It was de.ided, on the motion of the Mayor, to call a public meeting in the Merivale schoolroom on January 12th, at 8 p.m., to discuss the proposal to raise the loan. The Mayor and Cr. Neate were appointed delegates to attend the Conference convened by the City Council to discuss tho question of deeds of concession to '.IV y Companies. The Council then adjourned. LINWOOD. The Linwood Borough Council met last night. Present—The Mayor (Mr Marshall), and Crs. Ayers, Jno. Taylor, Jameson, Board, Atkinson, Brunt, Pearce, and Jaa. Taylor. An apology was received for the absence of Cγ. Horsley. A letter was read- from the Taranaki Charitable Aid Board, suggesting that the money for charitable aid should be a firsts charge on the Consolidated Fund. Mrs Ruby King interviewed the Council, and asked for certain concrete channelling to be done. .It was decided to put in hand the", work in Church street, Elmwood grove and Armagh street. In answer to a letter from the City Council, the Mayor and Crs. Brunt, Ayers and Pearce were appointed to attend a conference on the matter of tramway concessions, and the Town Clerk was instructed to write for full information relating to the deed of concession. It was decided, on the motion of Cr. Peajice, to define* the duties of the Committees. The Finance Committee reported that since the last meeting the receipts had amounted to £526 13s 2d, and the dr. balance at the Bank amounted to £451 4s 4d. The expenditure was £234 6s Bd. The report was adopted, as were those of the Works Committee and Inspector of Nuisances. The Council then adjourned.
