AUCKLAND NOTES.
(press association teueobam.) AUCKLAND, December 7. Mahaki, who was brought up from New Plymouth on Saturday was exercised at EUerslie this morning. He looks well and moved without showing any symptoms of unsoundness. St. Paul, Day Star, Pegasus; Maria and Nestor all put in strong exercise, and each moved well. While being schooled over the hurdles Gipsy Prince fell, and his rider, Davidson, received anastyshaking. The horse, however, escaped iujury. St. Paul still coutinues to hold his position as favourite for the Auckland Cup, though little money is beiug invested on him at the price quoted, 3to 1. A wagei- of 200 to 40 was accepted about Mahaki, but an offer to lay another 200 to 45 failed to find a taker. Day Star is being nibbled at, but only for small amounts, and in some quarters there is * teudeney to take liberties with the son of Castor, apparently under the impression that he will l>e reserved for the Derby. St. Paul is also favourite for the Derby at 6- to 4, 4 to 1 being offered on the field bar him. A meeting of the Committee of the Auckland Racing Club was held this afternoon. Letters were read from various owners complaining of the treatment their horses had received at the hands of Mr Evett. After considering the communications, the Secretary was instructed to scud a reply in each case that the Committee had full confidence in their officer, and they saw no reason to call upon him for an explanation of the alleged grievances.
