GREENHOUSE.

Although up to the present time the weather has been far from hot, the air of the greenhouse will require to be kept moist and copious syringing given to foliage plants and such others as are not in flower. Any Azaleas or Ericas that may be inquired for autumn flowering should now be removed to cool airy quarters, or they may come forward too rapidly. Shade from bright sunshine but not too much so, as light is required to harden and ripen the woort. Heaths with soft wood for autumn and winter flowering should be got into their flowering pots. After being hardened they will do best outside. Azaleas may be propagated by cutting from side shoots taken off quickly aud inserted without delay so that they may not flag which they will do if much exposed. Use very sandy peat and pot firmly. There are many other plants of which cuttings may now be made. The cuttings of Dipladenias may be any small shoots which have not run into slender growth, taken off with a heel. Cuttings of Allamandas, Ixoras, Clerodendrons and other woody plants will require to be struck in a brisk heat. Early flowered Pelargoniums should be propagated as early as possible. Previous to taking the cuttings place the plants in the open and keep them moderately dry for a period of three weeks, which ripens the wood. Select shoots which are short jointed, as these always make the beat plants and insert each cutting singly in a small pot or put three or four round the side of a larger one, using light, sandy soil. Keep dry until the cuttings are wall calloused and pot off as soon as they are sufficiently rooted.
