VALUE OF INVENTIONS.

The successful inventor of to-day, or, at leari, th« purchwew of bi» ptteut j-ighU,

receives large remuneration. A few months ago the Ihmlop tyre property, which began in a small way, was sold for £3,000,000. More recently the patent rights of the Bovri l food have been sold for £2,000,000. The inventor in this case was a Mr Johnston, who learnt how to make a " fluid beef." A Company, formed for the purpose, Lord Playfair being the Chairman, bought his rights for £25,000 in cash, and £50,000 in shares. The Bovril Company itself has a paid-np capital of £120,000, upon which its last annual dividend was 45 per cent. The evolution of "Bovril" is, therefore, as follows:— Mr J. L. Johnston sells for £75,000. The Company's capital is £120,000. The Company sells out for £2,000,000.
