Nai'lbr, September 1. Mr W. Douglas left yesterday morning by the Waihora for Sydney. His string of horses con-pri-in;; Brooklet, Penro.e, Waihau asd Nicolo, were taken io Hastings yesterday

by J. Munn to complete their preparation for Spring engagements. Training work has been at a standstill during the last two or three days owing to the heavy rain. The track, however, is in good order, and immediately the rain ceases fast work will be resumed. The New Zealand Cup candidate, Searchlight, caused her trainer considerable uneasiness last week owing'to one of her legs having filled after the mare had performed a gallop. It is hoped that a 6hort cessation from training will have the effeot of bringing the mare round again. September 1. The heavy rain last week interfered with training operations, but the weather appsars to have cleared now, and trainers will begin to send their charges along in earnest again. Mr Collins has purchased the sire Dmry Lane and intends placing him at the services cf breeders during the coming season. Weights for the Woodlands Hunt Club's Meeting will be declared on September 12th, and acceptances, with nominations for the Maiden Steeplechase on September 19th. . The cablegram from Sydney announcing that Donald McKinnon had come to grief while doing schooling exercise, and that Redmond, who was riding him, had an arm broken, aroused considerable sympathy here, both for Mr Douglas and Redmond, who is a favourite joakey with the Hawke's Bay racecourse habitues.

The Town and Suburban Racing Club's Programme for their Race Meeting on the Prince of Wales' Birthday has been issued. The events are substantially the same as on the last occasion on which the meeting was held on that day.
