DUNEDIN, September 14. The dredges on the Waipori and Molyneux rivers continue to get fair returns. Last week the .Jutland Flat Company obtained 30oz of gold, the Upper Waipori Company 17oz 2dwt, the Ettrick dredge 16oz for three days, the Roxburgh dredge Boz, the Edina dredge 25_oz. Messrs Green and Son haA*e discovered a reef one foot thick at the outcrop on Raggedy range, near Ophir, vyhich assayed at the Dunedin .School of Mines Boz 7dwt to the ton. All the available ground has been pegged out. WELLINGTON, September 14. The Franco-New Zealand Mining Syndi.cate, ha*»*ing beeD successfully inaugurated, has commenced operations. At a meeting, at which the following members were pregent—Count Jouffroy D'Abbans (in the chair), Mr D. McLean (representing the West Coast shareholders), Mr John P. Harris (representing the Nelson shareholders), Mr F. B. Farmar (representing the Wellington shareholders) —it was arranged that Mr J. P. Harris should proceed to the Coast for the purpose of securing further options. Mr Rene Proust is already on his way to Paris, on benalf of the syndicate, with a large number of mining options for flotation, m addition to which he has in hand the flotation of a powerful French Company representing a capital of 50,000,000 francs. The syndicate now formed in New Zealand is backed by the wealthiest representatiA*es in France, and is determined to conserve the interests of its compatriots, not only in miniug, but in other lucrative undertakings.
