CYCLING IN HAGLEY PARK.
TO THK EDITOR. OP THE PRKSS. Sir,—Within the last month 'a correspondence has been going on in your columns on the subject of an artificial lake in Hagley Park. It seems to mc that if a sum of money is to be spent in providino\recreation m some form it would, for various reasons, be of much more utility if expended on making a bicycle track round the Park.
In the first place cyclists include in their ranks riders of both sexes and all ages, and so the benefit would not be confined to .-any one class. Secondly, it would be an especial boon to lady riders, many of whom are nervous, and who, sooner than submit themselves to the annoyance intentionally caused by many drivers and also some pedestrians, prefer to keep their machines at home, and who . thus lose much of the benefit they would otherwise derive from bicycling. Thirdly, the number of riders as compared with model yachtsmen mould be about in the proportion of twenty to one, and lastly a very small tax on bicycles would ; provide ample funds for keeping a track in good order all the year round. Thanking you in anticipation.—Yours, See. Co:.STA-?T KIDER.
