(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM)
WELLINGTON, September 15. A young man named Frederick Hankins, aged S3, single, and for many years a compositor on the Evening Post, died at an early hour this morning under rather peculiar circumstances. He had been at one of the city hotels until a late hour playing cards, aud on the way home with others met a friend, who had a bottle of whiskey, of which all partook. Hankins suddenly became ill, and, a cab being secured, was driven home, but died almost immediately on arrival. The deceased had not been in the best of health for some time, and it is supposed was suffering from heart affection. Mr F. 0. Shipton, one of the oldest commercial men "on the road" in New Zealand, died in the Hospital to-day. He had been ailing from an internal complaint for some time, and only a day or two ago hod an operation performed. Although it was known that ne could not live out a year, his end was not expected to be so near. He was about 68 years of age, and greatly respected.
