A COVETED FUND.
At Auckland, on Saturday, before his Honour Mr Justice Conolly, in Chambers, one of the principal matters submitted was in reference to the disposal of the fund of £1212 4s .tl. accrued in the hands of Colonel Haultain and others, from subscriptions raised for the erection and maintenance of a Women's Refuge. A scheme had been submitted to the Judge to hand over the fund to Mrs Cowie's Home, but objection was taken to that on the ground that the Home was denominational in regard to the management. The objections were raised by the Salvation Army, the Door of Hope Institute and another, ail claiming to be entitled to the fund, and when the matter was before his Honour recently he allowed it to stand over in order that other applicants might file affidavits. However, when the case was called it was found that notice of the withdrawal of the motion had been served. It was explained that while the Trustees thought the amount in hand would be useful to any one of the bodies, it would, if divided, be only frittered away, but if some plan could be arrived at amongst the parties to erect a permanent building as a home they would raise no objection to the fund being devoted to that purpose.
