LAND BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the Land Board was held on Thursday. Present—Messrs J. W. A. Marchant (Commissioner Crown Lands), D. McMillan, and A. C. Pringle. Applications were granted as under :— Section 36600 block XIV,, Spas ton, 84a 2r 30p for cash, to A. McCm-mick; section 36159, block IV., Orari, 14a 2r 9p, cash, A. Austin.

It was resolved to approve of the issue of a freehold title to Ellen Crowe, holder of perpetual lease Lot 4, reserve 1261. A number of applications for transfers of leases and licenses were considered and approved. In the matter of defaulters as to residence and improvements, it was resolved in several cases, for reasons given, not to enforce residence for the present. In eighteen instances it was decided to grant extension of time for the payment by defaulters of rents and instalments.

The Commissioner of Crown Lands was authorised to deal with the application of W. K. Parbury for a lease of land at Cheviot for the purpose of accommodating travellers' stock.

It was decided to call for tenders for the temporary pastoral occupation of the landing reserve Hart's Creek, Lake Ellesmere.

The Board refused permission to an applicant to cut firewood in forest reserve at Pudding Hill, being of opinion that the bush should be preserved. It was resolved to recommend the. lion. Minister of Lands to approve of sale under section 117 of the Land Act, 1892, to the New Zealand Trust and Loan .Company, of4Ja adjoining R.S. 26179 and 34001 at £10, and of 3a adjoining R.S. 26179 at £6. It was resolved to hold enquiries as follows into alleged charges of dummyism :— Rakaia, on Wednesday, September 23rd, at lp.m., as to lot 47 Highbank estate; at Oxford, on Thursday, September 24th, 1896, as to lots 1 and 2 and 15, reserve 2332, View Hill.

The next- ordinary meeting of the Board will take place on Friday, September 25th, 1896.
