OTAGO HUNT CLUB RACES.
[Br Telegraph.] (from our correspondent. ) DUNEDIN, September 11. The weather is still line for the Hunt Club races. All the horses engaged have arrived excepting Ilex, who may yet come. My selections are : —Hunters' Hurdles— Rebel, with Invader dangerous. Kensington Handicap —Captive ; the race is open, and I am afraid of Lord Roslyn. Winter Hurdles —Nat, with Belmont and Silverstream close up. Shorts—Van. Buren. Trot—Colonel or Creeping Jane. Hunt Cup — Robin. Welter—Ladj r Somuus. The Otago Hunt Club meeting takes place to-day. The following are expected to run well :—Hunters' Hurdle Race, Silverstream ; Kensington Handicap, Lord Rosslyn ; Winter Hurdle Race, Rebel; Shorts Handicap, St. Ouida ; Trot, Little Pet; Hunt Cup, Robin ; Welcome Handicap, Captive.
The Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting opens at Randwick to-day, when the Epsom Handicap and Derby will be decided. Hopscotch, the favourite for the Handicap, won a race at TattersalFs Meeting on August 29th, so may be regarded as in form. The betting indicates that MrGollan's Tire is expected to have a good chance of appropriating the Derby, and should he succeed .in defeating Coil and Charge the victory will be very popular. The Weight-for-age Spring Stakes will likely go to Newhaven.
