NEW SOUTH WALES CIVIL SERVICE.
THE COMMISSIONERS' REPORT,
Pre** A_goc.u-.on— By Telegraph—Copyright. Sydney, September 11. In the Assembly Mr Lyue moved that the Chairman leave the chair because of the non-presentation of the promised report of the Public Service Commission. Ha indignantly urged the injustice inflicted on tho retrenched Civil servants, the absence of information, and the artfulness of the Commissioners. He characterised their proceedings as hole-and-corner work. The Promier replied warmly. As soon as the Board had dealt with tho appeals tho report would be presented. When that time came members would perhaps lind that tho report gave more information than they bargained for. Tho Board had carried out a great work admirably and saved nearly £800,000 per annum. Many worthless officers had been got rid of. In no less than seventeen cases the Board ascertained that the dismissed officers had pilfered State funds, and other incompetents were kept in their plaoe through influential friends. The days of old political patronage had gone, and it would be well for Civil servants to remember that. The motion was negatived by 63 tf 27.
