WELLINGTON.
August 31. Mr J. E. Henry has been appointed handicapper to the Masterton, Woodville, and Lower Valley Jockey Clubs. The Masterton Club holds its Spring Meeting on the 10th and 11th December, and the Autumn gathering on St. Patrick's Day (17th March). The following programme has been framed for the Masterton Racing Club's Spring Meeting:—First day.—Hack Hurdles, 30 soys ; Maiden Hack Race, 25sovs ; Masterton Cup, 150sovs; Handicap Hack Race, SOsots; Open Flying Handicap, 50sovs; Flying Hack Handicap, 36sovs; Hack Scurry, 30sovs. Second day.—Second Hack Hurdles, 25sovs; Electric Hack Handicap, 25sovs ; Racing Club Handicap, 60sovs ; Second Hack Handicap, 35sovs ; Telegraph Stakes (open), 4050v3; Hack Welter, 25sovs ; Consolation Hack Handicap, 20 soys. The popular secretary of the Manawatu Racing Club, Mr ! C. C. Milee, has resigned his position to take over the working of the totalisator at the club's gatherings. MiMiles has been a most energetic and obliging official for the club, and I trust he will succeed in his new venture. The Wairarapa Club intends to give £1300 in stakes for their two meetings this season. In speaking to his motion at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa R.C, re paying out on placed horsee, Mr Wilkinson said that there were often large dividends paid out at the beginning of the meeting, and it would tend towards owners running their horses into places more. He thought there would be better racing, and more satisfaction to backers. The trouble last season between the Wellington Racing Club and the Premier, which prevented the Wairarapa Racing Club obtaining a permit for its Autumn gathering, has evidently put some of our country cousins at loggerheads with its Metropolitan Club, and Mr A. Donald, in speaking at the Wairarapa R.C.s annual meeting re an executive committee for governing racing in the Wairarapa, said he considered the Metropolitan Club was somewhat one-sided, as it was liable to let permits wait until the Wellington Club.were satisfied. , The Metropolitan Club was not representative of this district, but he did not wish to sever from the Metropolitan Club if they would elect a better representative for the Wairarapa district.
