ROUND ABOUT RICCARTON.
Tuesday. Tippler has been presented to Mr H. Piper. The gelding, on being released from the slings, walked from Middle Park to his new home all right. The injured limb is now healing well, and although Tippler is hardly likely to become sound enough to race, he will be capable of doing good duty as a hack. It was proposed ta enter Liberator for the Canterbury Cup, and the fact that it was contemplated running him for the colony's champion stakes implies that his present owner and trainer do not think he is half done yet. The old fellow is bowling along in his work in good style and has quite got over his exertions at the National Meeting. Gillie is being given easy pace work. He is being specially reserved for the Curragh Steeplechase. Artilleur occupies a box at S. Efiggott's place. It has not yet been decided whether he will be put into work ©r given a season at the stud. Many arc ef opinion that his leg would stand. F. Cochrane is, I hear, going to start a training establishment at Ashburton, and will probably have the superintendence of Warrington and Errington. The gelding, by Master George from Lady Sockburn, that Sheenan is at present hacking is called George Sockburn. He is four years old. Eltesmere was sold at Tattersall's yards on Saturday for £15. Although a failure at racing, he is a cheap hunter at the price paid. The rain that has prevailed since Saturday has made the tracks unfit to work on, and most of trainers' lots have been deing only walking exercise. Royal Salute, the Artillery—Titania filly in the Middleton stable, has been thrown out of training and returns to Elderslie. Pactolus has been taken up again, and is looking well after his spell.
