OBITUARY.
MR RICHARD BUNKER.
Another of the very old residents of Lyttelton passed away on Friday, etiU further diminishing the band of early colonists. Mr Richard Banker was born in Northampton, England, in 1809, and came to New Zealand in 1853 in tho barque Cornwall, landing first At Wellington. From thence he removed to Lyttelton to manage the bueineas thereof Messrs Tame and Co., of Wellington. Subsequently he was clerk to Messrs Dalgety, Buckley and Co., and A. J. Alport and Ritchie and Co., merchants of Lyttelton, Afterwards be was in business with hie eons till 18S0. Since then, till about a yeai*iago> he wae Librarian at the Colonists' Hall. Hβ occupied the position of Treasurer to the Building and Land Society from its formation in tho early days. Although he had attained to the ripe age of eighty-seven, he was wonderfully active, and was always about till come three weeks ago, when he had to take to hie bed. Two members of his family preceded him— hie wife in 1891, aged eighty-five, and hit eldest son, Richard, in 1894. He leaves one eon and four daughters, besides twelve grandchildren, to mourn their loss.
