KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
(The fortnightly meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was held on Tuesday even* ing. Present, all Councillors except Crs. Weston and' Hopkins, to whom leave of ' absence was granted. A letter from the Bank of New Zealand stated that, the rate for the Council's overdraft would be subject to revision in September, alao enclosed; the form of a motion to be adopted in refer* enoe to the incurring of an overdraft, which was approved and passed. It was decided to obtain grit for paths from Mr Sima at 3d per load. It was agreed to erect a fence to prevent horses and vehicles crossing the footpath near the Fire Brigade Station. Permission was granted to Mr J. Stanton to drain from Fuller street into, the railway drain. It was decided to repair the ~ fire-bell tower at a cost of about £19. ■ lime was extended to the Bridge Committee to report. The Lighting Committee recommended the discontinuance of. the use ol . naptha lamps, as it was found that kerosene lighting was less costly. The receipts for the fortnight were £48 19s 4d, overdraft £553 13s 9d, accounts amounting t0.£35 7a Id were passed for payment. It . was decided to shingle part of the Domain, road 10yds to the chain, also to place grit on Cridlahd street and Caes utreefc east ■ lootpaths. Cr. Drabble referred to bis not . being consulted as a member of the>Wocke Committee, and aaid if he ordered any work it appeared to be countermanded. Ib was decided to pay onb the publicans' license fees to the local boards entitled to . them. (Che Counoil then adjourned.
