ST. ALBANS.

A special meeting of the St. Albans Borough Council was held last night. Prosent—The Mayor, and Crs. Keig, Millton, Money, Glass, and Neate.

The Mayor stated that the meeting was for the purpose of receiving the balancesheet for the year ending March 31st, and moved that it be adopted.

The motion was carried.

The meeting then adjourned.

The ordinary meeting was then held. 'Present—Tho Mayor, Crs. ifeig, Million., Money, Glass, Neate, Charlewood, Cook, and Morgan.

The Finance Committee reported receipts £97 15s, and recommended for payment accounts amounting to £178 12s 9d.

The report was adopted. The Works Committee reported—" That with reference to Mrs Abbott's application for a right-of-way, it be a recommendation to the Council to enforce the minimum width of 66fb before granting it. An appointment for Wednesday (to-morrow) had been arranged by the Committee with the Clerk of the Avon Road Board with reference to Norman's lane."

The report was adopted. Some letters were dealt with.

The Foreman's report stated that men had been engaged in cleaning out drains, cleaning footpaths - and channels, and spreading metal on Hill's road, Boundaryroad, Fitzgerald, Barbadoes street, George street, McFadden's road, Shirley's road, Papauni road. On Hill's road 170 yards of metal had been spread, and metal was being spread on Boundary road.

The report was adopted.

On the motion of Cr. Milt/ton, it was decided that the attention of the Works Committee be called to the state of Leinstec road with power to act.

The Slaughterhouse Inspector reported that the slaughterhouses under the jurisdiction of the Conncil were in good order. One of the licensees had been cautioned to be careful to abstain from draining any objectionable matter into the drain adjoining his premises.

The report was adopted.

Cr. Gharlewood gave notice to move— "That, provided those interested subscribed the sum of £50 towards the cost, the Council is prepared to accept dedication from Rhodes' Trustees ot 4 chains of road on the east side of Madras street."

Cr. Cook gave notice to move—" That, in the event of the dedication of 4 chains of road east side ot Madras street being accepted, the Council also accept dedication of the continuing portion on the west side, as the cost of dedicalit. will be coasiderably lessened thereby." The estimates for the current year were read and approved.
