(PRESS ASSOCIATION* TKLE. RAM.) AUCKLAND, June 8. The Auckland members who hud not. already proceeded to Wellington to bo present at the opening of Parliament on Wed. uesday let- by the Takapuna aud Gairlooh, from Ouehunga to-day. Sir Maurice O'Rorke, Speaker of tha House of Representatives, addressed a large meeting of his Manukau constituents at Onehuugo. on Saturday night. Sir Maurice dealt, among other matters, with the attitude of the Legislative Council in making ohangea in certain oi the Money Bills recently brought in by the Orovemment. He regarded several of the alterations insisted upon by the Counoil as an encroachment upou the privileges of the representatives oS the people, which would not : have i*--- Mtolerated by the British House of Cot-iltw-x The Government should have resisted the.. encroaohments more strenuously than they had done. Perhaps Ministers were aoting upon the principle of giving the Councillors rope enougli iv order to see whether they would not proceed to dig their own graves. He had stated upon a former occasion that be would not again inflict himself upon them as a candidate. He was mindful of this, and it would be for him to make a statement at the end of the session aa to what course he should then take. He had now eujoyod tlie confidence of the people of Ouehunga for th.rty.-i_: years. A vote of thanks aud confidence was unanimously carried. Mr F. Lawry, M.H.R., here rose and said that, as an elector ot M.nukau, he would like to move a resolution—"That this meeting earnestly requests Sir C M. O'Rorke to allow himself to be nominated as a candidate for thia constituency at the next general election; also that this meet* ing pledges itself to use every effort to secure his election." The motion was seconded by Mrs Yates, and carried amid applause.
