Wednssdav, Juke 3. '" (Before R. Beetham, Esq., S.M.) Civil Cases.—Louisa Rogers v John Gardiner, claim £1 6a ; judgment for tbe amount claimed. Alleged Larcent.—Alfred Geo. Driscoll aud Win. Koekeller were charged with having on April 21st broken into the residence of Captain W. Whitby, and stolen one silver watch, two sovereigns, one pair of men's boots, and two small knives, of the total value of £8 3s. Arthur Wright was charged with receiving the pair of boots, knowing them to have b-jen stolen. The police asked for a remand for a week, which was granted.

Maintenance. — Jeremiah Sullivan applied for the variation of an order made by che Court for him to pay 7a 6i per week towards the support of his illegitimate child. Mr Nalder appeared for Sullivan, and stated the application was made under section 32 of the Destitute Persons Act, 1894. Mr Kippenberger appeared to oppose. Mr Nalder called applicant, who deposed that his average earnings were 9s 10d per week as a fisherman. He had a wife aud three children, also a mother-in-law, eighty-one years of age, to support. Mr Kippenberger examined Sullivan atsom? length as to his income. Mrs Sullivan gave similar evidence as her husband as to his means. After hearing the statements on both sides his Worship decided to vary the order, and reduced it to 43 per week. In doing so his Worship said applicant's conduct was very bad, and were he the only sufferer the order would not be reduced. Ie was clear, however, to the Bench, that the wife aud children of the applicant were the persons who had to suffer and, out of consideration for them, the order would be changed to 4s.

Abusive Language — Elizabeth Boyer, for using threatening, abusive and insulting language to Emily Peters, was fined bs and costs, 245. Mr Nalder appeared for complainant.
