THE UNION STEAMSHIP COMPANY.
By Telegraph. . ..from our correspondent. Ddnedin, June 2. It was recently announced thab the Union Company had purchased a large cargo steamer in England, the Rakanoa. It was expected that she would reach Sydney in time to take up this season's trade to Fiji, but as she is not likely to arrive now before the middle of July, certain alterations are necessary in the running of the Company's steamers duriug the current month. Jhe Hauroto, due at Sydney on the llth, loads a cargo of coal for Fiji, thence she comes to Auckland with sugar, and from Auckland she proceeds to Dunedin direct to take up the running hence on the 16th of July for Sydney via Cook Strait. The Sydney trip via Cook Strait to Wellington, timed for the 17th inst., has been abandoned. The Tarawera, due at Dunedin on the 14th, returns to Lyttelton and Wellington, leaves the latter port on tbe 22ad for Melbourne via the usual Southern ports and Hobart. Ou the return of this vessel she falls into her usual run to Sydney via Auckland, leaving Dunedin on the 15 hof July. The Te Anau leaves Dunedin on the 17th inst. for Sydney via Auckland, in place of the Tarawera. Oa.her return the Te Anau will probably lake the Flora's run between Dunedia and Auckland, and the Flora that of the Corinna between Dunedin and Wellington. Mr James Cargil', for several years local traffic manager at the head office ot the Union Company, ia promoted to be branch manager at Gisborne. Captain IK wan left Dunedin yesterday to take up his duties as Westport Harbourmaster.
