There are great rejoicing 3in South Africa at President Kruger's promise to do his besb to obtain a mitigation of the sentences, which is regarded as a pledge of racial re-union. Stocks rose 50 per cent., and President Kruger was loudly cheered in Johannesburg. Joubert and Leyds are consulting with the Orange Free State as to a uniform armament for both Republics. President Kruger is obtaining tenders for 25,000 Mauser rifles and 10,000,000 cartridges.. The Transvaal Government has sent officers to the frontier to verify Bir H. Robinson's statement that troops were not being collected at Mafeking. Pbetop.ia, June 1. The members of the Reform Committee "who were released visited President Kruger and cheered him. Hammond has been liberated on parole in order that he may visit his wife, who is dying. The case of the other three leaders will be decided next week. Davis and Simpson have been detained in custody, as they declined to petition for a remission of their sentences. Mr " Barney " Bavnato has promised to pay several of the fines. President Kruger denies Mr Seymour Foot's statement that he was arranging an anti-English alliance during Sir Henry Loch's Governorship. Later. All the members of the Reform Committee, with the exception of the four leaders and Davis and Simpson, have now been finally released from custody, but all the fines imposed have been maintained.
