ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
(FRBSS ASSOCIATION T-LK-RAU.) AUCKLAND, May 30. Last night a young woman named Margaret Parnell made au attempt to drown herself in the harbour. She went down the Queen Btreet wharf with a male comrade, with.whom she was heard disputing, and suddenly left him and jumped over the wharf iuto tne water. Constable Oliphant noticed the woman go over, and at once took off his coat and waistcoat and sprang in after her. Tht tide was strong ebb at the time, and before Oliphant could reaoh her she was carried almost to the ferry steamer jetty, and had gone under water more tnan once. Oliphant, however, managed to grasp her, aud, after a somewhat hard struggle, brought her to the steps. The woman was quite, unconscious, aud it took some time to bring her round.
