WOOLSTON BOROUGH COUNCIL
The ordinary meeting of the Woolston Council was held on Thursday night. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Crs. Wood, Hobson, Milne, Gimbiett, Rennie, Lord, Tanner, and Hawkius. An apology was received tor the absence of Cr. Auderson.The Inspector of Slaughter booses laid before the Couucil auudry suggestions in refetence to the inspection ot butchers shops, &c. Oa the motion of Crs. Milne and Lord
the Clerk waa instructed to interview the Selwyu County Clerk with the view of obtaining from him particulars connected with Urn necessary by-laws referring to the matter aud report at next meeting. Correspondence was dealt with from the Deputy i'ublic Trustee, from the Citrk to the L.uwood Borougn, and from the St-creUry to the Dr-iuage lioard. investigate the entire system oi aralnage, sewa>;e aispos»!, drams, slaughterhouses and general sanitation of the whole borough, to make recommendations tiiert-ou, end bring up a written report within thirty days." The purchase of the freehold of a site for offices was now considered, and it was moved by Cr. TaNNKR, and seconded by Cf. Hawklnj*—" That the property reported upon uy the Sub-Commitiea oe acquired by tne Couucil, provided that satisfactory financial ariangementfc can be effected." Au amendment was proposed by Cr. Wooo.aud seconded by Cr. _di_s_—" in_t cousuleration of the matter De deierred until the fate of the anticipated Local Government Bill is decided upon." X»ie motion was carried. Cis. Tanner, Jiobson, Guublett and Haw-ma for the motion, Crs. Wood, Milne aud Lord for the amendment. Cr. Retiuie refrained from voting. It was leaolved that four new lamps be put up in the borough, viz., aa oil lamp at the corner of Garland's road, and three gas lamps to be placed as follows :—One at tne coiner of JtUndolph and Edmonds streets, one at tne corner of London and Ss. Johu street, and one at the corner of Bainford and Barton streets; that the heavy traffic by-law should be adopted aud continued, aud come into force ou aud after the Ist d_y of
J uue, 1896; and that a portion oi Randolph street be metalled ; also that the Uhainiian of the Works Committee arrange to have the broken metal carted out as soon as possible. The Finance Committee's report was received, and accounts presented were ordered to be paid. __________________
