In attempting to relieve Vamos 2500 Turks were defeated. Constantinople* May 30. Acting in accord with the Sultan, the Powers have instructed the Consuls in Crete to negotiate with the insurgents to secure the liberation of the Vamos garrison, provided that the Turks besieged at Kalwas are liberated. The Porte is sending sixteen battalions to Crete to assist in restoring order.
