(PRKSS ASSOCIATION TKI.KGRAM ) WELLING TON, May 29. When Detective Kirby's case was exiled on at the S.M. Court this morniug there was no appearance of the accused. Ou the application of the - Crown Prosecutor a warrant was issued for ins arrest, and his recognisances ot £400 were estreated. Mr Martin, S.M., addressing Inspector Pender, said he hoped there would be no neglect in apprehending the accused. This was the second occasion withm fifteen months in which police officers had been charged with a serious crime, and succeeded in evadiug justice. If the accused had got away to Australia, he trusted that every effort would be made to see the law vindicated. Latkr. Kirby was last seen about five o'clock on Wednesday afternoon. The Taluue left for Sydney at eight o'clock, but the police are confident chat he did not get away by her, as the steamer was watched and prior to her departure Chief Detective Campbell thoroughly searched tne vessel. A suggestion that he might have left for London from LytteltoQ by the Tainui last night is not creditsd by the police, as that steamer was alao w&tched. When Kit by was firat chaiged here toe police opposed bail, but Mr Greenfield, S.AI., grauted it in two sureties of £100 each on each charge. Mr Jones, contractor, formerly of Timaru, aud Mr Hoby, dentist, of Wellington, were the sureties.

The police made a thorough search of the steamer Tuknpuna on her arrival at Lytteltou on Thursday. The direct liner Taiiiui also was searched from stem to stern bef ne she left for London oa Thureday eveuiug.
