From a letter received by the Industries and Commerce Department from Messrs James A. Cantlie and Co., merchants, of Montreal, Canada, ib appears that there is a good market in the Doited States for our rabbit skins, and that about 25,000,000 to 30,000,000 of Australian and New Zealand rabbit skins were imported into the United States last year, at prices ranging from 2_d bo 16d per lb. AU these i skins were purchased at the London sales. Some of the largest buyers wrote to Messrs , Cantlie asking tnem to let them know when they had a lot. to offer. Skins imported into ' the United States are principally nsed by hat manufacturers. There is no duty collected on raw skins when imported into tbe United States. Messrs Cantlie and Co. offer t_ represent any exporters of skins to New York through their resident correspondent in that city, and the Department of Industries and Commerce will afford all information it can to rabbit-skin exporters. The letter from Messrs Cantlie and Co. to us was in reply to one from this Department asking if there waa a market for these skins in Canada. The Department sent them a box of splendid samples, and they, finding there was no market in Canada, wrote to their people in New York, with the above result.
