WELLINGTON, April 8
The members cf the Women's SocUl and Political League, which h*3 declared itself in favour of the Government, do nob pall together us harmoniously as would be expected from a Sooiaty the membership of which is confined exclusively to the gen ler sex. At the annual inoevitig of the League last evening, it was pi*iu that thete were two distiootly opposite elements present, and the keenues-. with which these amateur politicians fought for their particular nominees to office was highly amusing. Mrs Seddou was re-eleccud President of the League. Lady Scout nils a similar office ou iha rival Society, which is kuown aa the Southern Crosa League.
The unfortunates out of work here again interviewed the Minister for Public Works this morning, and sought to indues the Government to do somothing for them by giving iustaucas ot the distressful conditiou of many of the families here. The stories of ''suffering told by the deputation were in some cases pitiful indeed, anrt showed the urgent, necessity for doing something for some of the more pressing cases. The Minister again said the Government were doing all that was possible with the means at their disposal, but held out hope of finding employment for some of the most disiresaiug cases on the Main Trunk Railway.
At the meeting of the Committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association tomorrow, Mr J. Stuckey, the well-known breeder, will move the following relutions:—" 1. That the above re. solutions be sent to the Canterbury, Otago, Auckland and Napiar Associations, asking them to adopt similar methods in dealing with exhibits, also askiug them to bring the matter before all Associations in their respective provincial districts, and that this Association do so in the Wellington provincial district."
