DEPOSITS OF QUICKSILVER.
A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that while ab Russell, Bay of Islands, Sir James Hector- picked up some lumps of clay, thrown out of a hole dug for a fencing post, which were thickly studded with globules of mercury. The existence of the metal at Russell has been known for some years, itliaving been found all over the flat, amongst the clay deposited oy the creek, but the source of the deposit has not been discovered, and it has not been thought worth while to attempt the extraction of the globules from the clay.
