HAWKE'S BAY.

Napier, March 9. The Wanganui Meeting i 3 now a thing of the past. The trainer for the Karama stable had the honor of leading in the Cup winner. Spindrift was well backed here for small amounts, though tbe majority of punters scarcely thought tho son of Nordenfeldt— Spinnaker could lower Lady Zetland's colours. However, the gelding not only won but put up a record for the distance. Searchlight won a race, but the company opposing her was not very strong, and her chance of capturing the Hawke's Bay Cup must be very remote. The Hawke's Bay horses returned home on Saturday night with the exception of Spindrift and Defiance, who came through on Friday.

The weights for the Napier Park Cup and Flying Handicap made their appearoncs this morning. I fancy the handicaps will be considered among the best of Mr Danvers's productions, and the Cup Race particularly will take a lot of picking. At present I like bast the chances of Saracen, Brooklet, Spindrift, Leda and Aio. In the Flying Handicap my fancies are King's Bowman, Solttairo, Searchlight, Kent and Ben Yarrey.

The Hon. J. D. Ormond had the misfortune to lose his fine two-year-old Fearless, by Dreadnought— Gabble. The colt dropped dead jast after doing a galiop on Tuesday morning last.

The threatened lawsuit between T. Qainlivan and Mr W. Douglas has been stopped for the present, the parties agreeing to have the matter settled by arbitration. Three Star and Bloodshot arrived at Hastings on Saturday last to fulfil their engagements at the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Meeting.
