THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. HARRY TO BE EXCLUDED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SXD&EY, March 12. The majority of the cricketers left for Melbourne yesterday and the remainder follow to-morrow. A meeting of the team is lo be held there, when the personnel will be finally decided. .] ohns has been notified that he has been duly appointed a member of the team. A movement is on fooc to induce him and Ke'ly to accept half shares each in the proceeds of the toar# Garrett, iv an interview, stated that the Selection Committee was requested by the Cricket Council at Monday's meeting to choose a fourteenth mau, and unanimously chose Turner. With regard to replaciog Harry by Hill, he agreed that the change -was only conditionally upon the Council approving, or upon the resiguation of Harry. He positively denied that the Committee had anything to do with the selection of Kelly, nor had they approved of the increase to fifteen.
Turner may not be able to leave with the team. He intended catching the Austral a fortuight later than the rest/ of the team, but he received a telegram to-day stating that if he wished to be included he must go in the Cuzeo with the other members of the team. There is a possibility thaD he cannot arrange his business affairs in time to do so. MELBOURNE, March 12. Bruce has sent a letter to the Press stating that the Cominitteo distinctly declined to exclude auy of the players previously chosen, but in deference to the wishes oi the Manager they nominated Hill to fill Harry's place should he resign or his exclusion be approved by the Council. Bruce adds that he entirely disapproves of the coutemplated alterations, not only because it is too late but because he has not seen or heard of anything to cause him to materially change hie opinion as to the merits ot the various players. At a meeting of the Executive of the Australian Eleven here to-day it is understood that it was decided to run no risks by taking Harry, and therefore he will be excluded. ADELAIDE, March 12. There is a strong feeliug here that if Johns and Harry are taken Kelly should be left out and Hill included. LONDON, March 11.
The Pall Mall Gazette says the match in Sydney indicated the evenness of tne team but noc its brilliancy. Hill's probable selection is popular in EDgland.
