AKAROA COUNTY RACING CLUB.
Delightful weather favoured the above Club for its annual fixture, which took place on the piotureiqne Little River course. The attendance was much the largest yet seen on the ground, the excursion train from Christchurch being very overcrowded. The racing was of an interesting character, the two chief events prodncing close and exciting finishes, the judges being unable to separate Magazine and Bellicent in the Cup. The amount put through the totalisator was £1678—a record for the Club—as against £1131 last year. R-sults :— DISTP.ICT MAIDEN HANDICAP HURDLE RACE, of 20 soys; second 5 soys from the stake. Mero made running from Hero for a mile, when tbe pair came on together clear of Kelvin Grove. Johns), also started. tiaivo Shot cut out the work for Magazine and Bellicent, Artilleur bringing up the rear. Rounding into the back Magazine went up to Salvo Shot, who before the top turn was reached dropped back, and Bellicent joined Mr Campbell's horse, while' Artilleur took third place. At the home turn Magazine appeared in trouble, but coming on under punishment was able to make a dead heat of it with Bellicent, Artilleur two lengths away third. Time, 2min 14 l-sth sec. Salvo, St. John, aud Magazine were the leading files to the first turn, Alcestis being disappointed in getting a run, while I Culverin, who was shut in, had to be pulled ! back, and entering the straight waß with Blenheim, the whippers-in of the party. Half way down the straight St. John and Fire King singled themselves out, the former winning by a nose. Magazine was third, just in front of Alcestis and Salvo Shot.
