ACCIDENT ASSURANCE SOCIETY.

The fourth annual meeting of the Accident Assurance Society in connection with j the United Fire Brigades' Association was then held, Superintendent E. Smith, Presi- I dent, oocupying the chair. _ The balance-sheet showed receipts ±5391 j 15s 9d, and expenditure £87 19s 6d, leaving ' a credit balance of £303 16b 3d. The balance-sheet was adopted. Two motions, of which notice had been given, were negatived. Officers for tbe ensuing year were elected at follows : — President, Superintendent Bmitb, Christchurch (re-elected) ; VicePresidents, Captains Bellringer (New Plymouth), Powell (Wangauui), and Leach (Port Chalmers) ; Hon. Secretary and Treasurer, Seoretary Gilberd (re-elected); Auditors, Messrs F. W. Garner and W. Hodgson (re-elected). The meeting then terminated. Owing to the necessity of giving twentyfour hours' notice for a special train the excursion to the Kaiapoi Woollen Factory fixed for to-day has been postponed till Saturday, at 8 a.m., when the members of ell visiting Brigades and their friends are requested to be at the railway station. To-day, at 10 a.m„ the visitors are Invited to inspect the Kaiapoi Clothing Waotory in Cashel street. A cricket picnic Brill take place on Lancaster Park, the sides being chosen North v South. In the evening at 7.30, on Market square, there Will be a water display. To-morrow, at 10 a.m., the firab day's competition will commence. There are a number of events -whioh should prove very attractive. The Garrison Band will play several selections on the ground.
