CYCLING FROM DUNEDIN.
RECORD BROKEN,
Mr r Davi6! S. Bowman on Saturday lowered Mr J. O. Shorland's record from Duuedin to Christchurch of 24 hours 23minutes by 40 minutes. Mr Bowman left Dunedin at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oamaru at 9 p.m., Rakaia at 9.25 a.m. on Saturday, Burnham at 12 o'clock, and reached Christchurch at 143 p.m. He had a head wind from Temuka to Christchurch, and between Rakaia and Buruham the tire of the hind wheel was punctured, which delayed him an hour. He was riding a Swift machine, which, with the punctured lire excepted, was iv good going condition when it reached its destination, and Mr Bowman loosed full of work. There was a large crowd of people in Cathedral square, who gave him a. hearty reception on his arrival. He considers that the time he made could be considerably reduced if special road arrangements were made which would avoid much waiting at the necessary stopping places. Weather permitting, Mr J. 0. Shorland will attempt to lower Mr D. S. Bowman's Christchurch-Dunedin record to day. Mr Shorland will leave the Christchurch Post Office at 9.30 a.m.
