The hemp market is flat, and shows no improvement, and all New Zealand lots were withdrawn from sale yesterday. New Zealand frozen mutton, first quality, 8f d; second quality, 3£d ; lamb, new, s£d. New Zealand cheese, 403 ; market dull. Butter shows fair business at a slight decline ; Danish 109s ; Colonial, prime, 96s to 100s. Occasional lots have been sold at 102s. Sugar—Best German beet 12s 4£d, Java 14s. No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, 47s 7£d. At to-day's wool sales a good selection was offered, and all prices showed an upward tendency.. The Bradford market is at a standstill, and top makers are asking a penny advance. March 7. 'The wool market is excited, and prices are hardening. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following London cable message, dated 6th March, 1896:— Tallow— Fine mutton tallow is neglected, fof other qualities market is easier. Frozen Meat—Mutton market weak. Canterbury and Wellington are worth , respectively 3£d and 3£d per lb (last quotations were 3fd and 3£d). Sheepskins—There is a rather better demand for combing merino and crossbreds, which are }d higher, whilst for clothing the market is unchanged.
