THE PRINCE OF WALES AND ALLOTMENTS.
A correspondent who wrote to the Prince of Wales asking for information respecting allotments on the Sandringham Estate, has received a reply from Mr Beck, the agent of the estate, in which he aays:—"ln this county there is usually no difficulty in obtaining allotments, and most of the landholder, are only too ready to provide land. I have not heard of any instance where the parish council has not been able to provide laud, aud I know a great mauy villages where the demand for allotments had been fully met previous to the creation of pari-h council-, iv the villages of Sandringham, West Newton, VYoiferton, and Babiugley, upon the estate of the Prince of Wales. I have never had an application tor allotments, and the simple reason is that his Royal Highness finds a large garden to every cottage, and every labourer has constant employment. Dersioghaoi, au adjoiuing large village, requires more allotments than exist at present, one reason being that there are numerous small owners, who build cottages with very amail garden plots, or even none at all. The Prince of Wales has very little property in the village, but when ah application was made last Ootober for a few acres for allotment., the request was immediately granted. I was at once authorised to give the tenant upon whose farm the required land was situated the necessary notice that the field would be taken for allctmeuts at Michaelmas. I may add that allotments are looked upon by many Norfolk landowners as a great help ia letting their laud."
