(rSESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM . WELLINGTON, M.rci 6. . The. Senate resumed this morning. A vote of thanks was accorded to the P.emier for the accommodation provided the Senate in the Legislative Council Chambers during its session. Alexander Boyd, of Oxford University, was admitted to the ad eundeni degree ot Master of Arts. The degrees of iiauhelor of Medioine and B*obnlor of Surgery wer. conferred on John M. Matthew^. The session is expected to close to* morrow. . The following report of the Committei respecting the application for a Miiitarj Commission was adopted:—"The Committei are of opinion that the examination of thi candidate should be held valid. They base this recommendation ohiefly on two con siderations—first, that some ' ambiguitj . attaches to the expression " passing the lira section "of the degree; and secondly, thai to exclude the candidate'would amount U 1 pressing Section. 11. of the ■ regulation 01 | commissions beyond its intention, whici ! was clearly only to seourp a satisfactory amount of knowledge, and not otherwise tc prescribe the course of study. To prevent a recurrence of such a case, the Committee suggest that Section 11. should ba Amended by the insertion of the words :—' Or who hai obtained certificates of proficiency is , ; such subjects as would be equivalent) te passing the first section of the B.A. orB.So. degree." I It was deoided that the concession aßked , for in the case of Maori candidates being examined in English was inexpedient. The following report of the Finance Committee was agreed to —" (a) With regard Co the question referred to the Committee that the fees for examination should be increased and the fees for diplomas reduced or abo Ushed, the Committee recommend that tht following alteration** be made in the feei charged—l, intermediate examination- ia music £3 3s, instead of £1 Is; 2, each notion of the examination for the B.A. or the ordinary B.Sc. degree £1 Is ; 3, B.A- degree or ordinary B.Sc. degree £2 2s, instead of £3 3s ; 4, M.A. degree £3 3s, instead ot £6 6s. The Committee are of opinion tha. alteration 1 should be brought into effect at once, that 2 and 3 come into force in 1897, and 4in 1898. (b) With regard to case mentioned in the Chancellor's address, in which the only candidate for one of the pro* fessional examinations failed to appear after considerable expense had been incurred is providing for the examination, the Committee do not recommend that any altera' tion be made in the statutes; suah cases are not likely to be of frequent occurrence, and papers set may sometimes he utilised u» subsequent examinations..'*
