JUNIOR CUP MATCHE3.
Tba match between the United and Midlaud teams was brought to a conclusion at Hagley Park oo Saturday, when the United gained an unexpected win by the narrow margin of 8 runs. At tho start of the day's play the scores were—Midlaud 233, United 129 and 129 for three wickets. The latter continued their innings, which was brought to a close for 216. X. D. Harman failed to add to his previous score of 72, but W. Haimau increased his 9 not out made on Saturday week to 53 before being disposed of, and Wilson made 12. Barry and Bennett divided the bowling honours. Tin Midland had to make 113 runs to win, and at the outset it loosed as if they would win, 50 being posted with only two wickets down, and Richards and Evans seemingly well set. At 53, however, the latter was bowled for 14. and with only 5 runs added Richards was dismissed for a well played 33. A great change then took place, Barry, Slephenson, Line, and Trevella all failing to score, eight wickets being down for 64 runs. Garrard quickly hit up 13, but 33 runs were still wanted when Bennett, the last man, joined Robertson. The score mounted freely until 104 was reached, when Benneb was bowled by a "yorker" from {Wilson, leaving Robertson to carry out his bat for a steadily played 17, T. D. Harman and Smith were the most successful bowlers, the former sending down hie first eight overs for no runs and three wickets.
