NEW VELVETEENS.
Velvet alone, and as an adjunct to other materials, is almost an essential in modern dress ; but it is often too costly for ordinary pockets, and the public owe a'debt of gratitude to those who find a good substitute. As, for example, the ncx cotton velvets which, under the name of Vertona, have been brought out. The range of colours is exhaustive, the prices ludicrously small. They are well adapted to many uses in upholstery, but are particularly suited to blouses and teagowns and evening cloaks. They can be had direct by return of post from the manufacturer, and any length is cut. Seldom have so many Parisian and art shades been attained, and the surface is of the most velvet-like texture. The sky blue Nil and rich rose pink tints would retrim a last season's dress, possibly not worth a heavy outlay, to perfection, so that it would look almost equ-1 to new. Middle-aged women would appreciate the perfection of the deep violet tone, or deep navy blue, trimmed with good lace ; these would make handsome gowns.
